Conceptual framework, methodology and scope

Assessment objectives

This program provides scientifically credible measures of the status and trends of North American bird populations at continental and regional scales to inform biologically sound conservation and management actions. The BBS measures avian population change for over 400 species to help identify species’ priorities for conservation, and provides avian count data for model-based conservation planning.
